    Middlefield is a rural community of 4,000 centrally located and bordered by Middletown, Meriden, and Durham. Incorporated in 1866, Middlefield covers 13.3 square miles. While maintaining its "small-town" feel, Middlefield is within easy commuting distance of larger cities, such as Hartford, New Britain, Middletown, and New Haven. The town offers many varied activities, including skiing, snow boarding, tubing, and ice skating in the winter; and swimming, hiking, and bike riding in the summer.
